Cognitive Educator™ Curriculum

BES trains and certifies Cognitive Educators™ to implement study group and tutorial programs and to conduct train-the-trainer sessions. Cognitive Educators™ combine knowledge from their previous training, education and professional experiences with knowledge acquired at Serper Method™ seminars and clinical sessions to help extend the brain health of their Cognitive Students™ and residents. By including implementation assistance as part of the training program during the 8-week post-training period, BES helps make program implementation easy.

Two-days of training are comprised of one full day of seminar/lectures. The second day is clinical and takes place in an assisted living residence. Cognitive Educator™ trainees will have the opportunity to experience using The Serper Method™ program with students. This can take place in the Brookline office, or on-site for assisted living, special care residences or adult day health programs. For residence or adult day training, the morning session #1 seminar of the Cognitive Educator™ Training is open to corporate management, administrators, nursing personnel and families. On site programs may be adapted to fit the special needs of a residence/program.

To become certified as Cognitive Educators™, candidates accepted to participate in the program:
• Receive the Cognitive Educator™ Kit for program implementation
• Complete the 2-day Serper Method™ Cognitive Educator™ training program
• Complete a structured implementation assistance and evaluative program, conducted telephonically and via email, with a BES Cognitive Educator™ during the first 8 weeks of program implementation.

Cognitive Educator™ candidates who meet BES standards and successfully complete the program are awarded a CEd™ certification by BES. In addition, cognitive educators will be qualified to work with individuals and groups in homes, or assisted living residences.

The cost of the Cognitive Educator™ Training & Implementation Assistance Program is $750.00 per person, plus travel related expenses for onsite programs. See the following pages for more details on the Cognitive Educator™ Kit, the training agenda and the implementation assistance and certification program.

Program Implementation Assistance & Cognitive Educator™ Certification

• BES provides a structured program of consultation, evaluation and support following training sessions. There are 3 elements to the typical program:
• Telephone Consultations
• Cognitive Educator™ Weekly Logs
• C.Ed. Certification

Telephone Consultations
BES provides up to 8-hours of telephonic assistance during the first 12-weeks of program implementation. Scheduled conference calls with a Cognitive Educator™ certified by BES are typically held after weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, & 12. While the length of each telephone session will vary, an average of 30-50 minutes is common. It is the responsibility of a Cognitive Educator™ candidate to arrange for participation in the conference call.

Cognitive Educator™ Weekly Logs
Cognitive Educator™ candidates complete a short log each week answering basic program and educational questions. Logs are e-mailed to BES.

C.Ed.™ Certification
BES evaluates each candidate in the Cognitive Educator™ program and awards a certification to participants who meet BES standards and satisfactorily complete the program. Once certified, Cognitive Educators™ may acquire accreditation credits from BES to maintain their certification.

• Program implementation assistance is included in BES training costs.

• Cognitive Educator™ certification programs may also be individually designed, with the approval of BES, to meet each participant’s professional needs.
